Guest Post by Rylee Reddick
My name is Rylee Reddick and this past week I had the pleasure to serve in Denver, Colorado at my very first mission trip.
We were fortunate enough to be invited to work and stay at the phenomenal Riverside Church. During our visit, we had the chance to help the church finish several projects that needed to be done like painting, mulching and preparing water bottles to be passed out.
I also had the opportunity to benefit many people outside the church including organizing and boxing up enough food for over 15,000 people with a good meal. In addition, we participated at the Denver rescue mission and served men, women, and children a warm meal. Working with these wonderful people was an eye opening experience to realize how blessed I am here in Melissa.
Personally, the highlight of my trip was working with the Riverside Sports and Crafts Camp. I knew that I wanted to use my talents God gave me to connect on a deeper level with the kids. While volunteering at the soccer camp, I met the sweetest little girl named Layla. I connected with Layla pretty fast because she was one of the few girls who participated in soccer. I started to sit down with her to learn a little bit about her during small group. I had fun getting to know her and on the last day, knowing that only 5% of the population in Denver are Christians, my friend Taylor and I pulled her from the group and began to talk to her about her relationship with Jesus. We told her how much Jesus loves her and that none of us are perfect or deserve his love. She understood that we all sin and that Jesus died on the cross for her sins and rose again. We then asked her if she wanted to accept Jesus in her life and she said with joy that, yes, she wanted to! I felt so blessed that God put me in Denver that morning to spread his mighty word to this little girl. At that moment, I realized that he answered all my prayers that he would use me this week and that he would speak through me. We then prayed with her and brought her a Bible with notes of encouragement and my favorite verse when I accepted Jesus in my life…..
Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
Overall, this mission trip was one of the best experience of my life and I can’t wait to go next year!
